Disinformation: the threats, the misconceptions and the science
Knowledge can no longer just be divided into individuals being either informed or uninformed. Individuals might just as well be misinformed, risking sharing faulty information and faulty conclusions. With the development of digital technology, it is becoming increasingly difficult to separate fact from fake and to debunk misperceptions.
Disinformation is often described as false information that is deliberately created or disseminated with the express purpose to cause harm. It is more likely that people will believe disinformation if it aligns with pre-existing beliefs, provokes an emotional response, if people are repeatedly exposed or if it comes from a source they trust.
In this panel discussion, we will dive into what is the latest research related to disinformation, why some people endorse it and what experiences there are in how to handle misperceptions about your research. The panel discussion is open to anyone who are interested in learning more about the topic.
