About me

My background is in Social Anthropology and the History of Religions where a main focus has been on various forms of ritual expression in a variety of settings, ranging from religious transgression to social identity construction.

About my research

My research project focuses on initiation ceremonies in rural southern Malawi that are deemed ‘harmful cultural practices’. By applying perspectives and methods from history of religions and an anthropology of religion, my research focuses on mapping the ontological frameworks of sexual cleansing practices and its socio-religious function in a post-colonial setting.

Additionally, my research examines the dynamic complexion of ritual construction in the light of sustainability efforts and initiatives on both national and local levels in rural areas of Malawi.
