PhD students at Lund University with an interest in sustainable development, the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are welcome to participate.

The aim with the conference is to showcase ongoing research and offer a networking opportunity for PhDs with similar interests in sustainable development from the whole of Lund University. It will be a space to meet and share ideas and research, and hopefully strengthen existing as well as generate future cooperation across disciplines, departments and faculties.

About the PhD Conference 2023

The year of 2023 marks the mid-point of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, which is based on 17 Sustainable Development Goals that includes ending poverty, reducing inequality and tackling climate change. Early efforts after the SDGs were adopted produced some favourable trends. In the past three years however, disasters such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and climate-related disasters have veered many of the goals off-track. Therefore, an acceleration of progress was called for at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in July 2022.

Science, technology and innovation are seen by the United Nations as important in order to confront crises in transformative ways and it should be encouraged to remove barriers that prevent creative solutions across disciplines. And this is something that the Lund University Agenda 2030 Graduate School want to further promote on a local scale. An acceleration of progress is important in all disciplines to reach sustainable development, whether it is law, social science, medicine or art.
